Big stories lie in the details of miniature worlds

Miniatures allow me to bring my design aesthetic to life, then change and adapt it as new ideas strike

Tribute to Lana

Lana Del Rey is my favorite (and arguably the best) artist of all time. She serves as a big inspiration to me and I listen to her music every day. Because of this I decided one of my first rooms would be that of a Lana fan. To do this I started with the base being a basic, teenager/college student room, containing a raised bed used for storage, a desk filled with school resources along with personal trinkets and beauty supplies, and random clutter, such as shoes and purses. From there I added posters and tapestries centered around Lana Del Rey, such as an NFR poster, or a Lollapolooza poster from the year she headlined. I also printed out miniature LDR album covers and glued them on to foam board to create vinyl covers, and placed those next to a record player. All in all, the room is cluttered and lived in, while also very personalized to the fan living inside.

Purple Room

The purple room started as an homage to horror movies, and developed into a more, calm and less cluttered average teenager room. It acts as a sister room the the previous one, seen by the corner doorway which can connect the two room (bottom middle photo). I wanted to try something unique with this room, hence the loft bed, under which there is tv playing the horror movie “Infinity Pool”, which is a remaining detail from the room’s horror movie era. The room also hosts many little crates which can be stacked into different shelf formations to hold the plants and trinkets displayed below. The use of crates as shelves helps to show off the kind of bare-bones feel of the room, which makes a great contrast the the cluttered room which I had previously constructed.

The Cabin

The log cabin was originally inspired by the movie series “Evil Dead”, containing many spooky details and more run-down clutter. Overtime it’s been repurposed to seem more like a weekend get away space, while still containing a few mysterious details. The room’s subtle old-timey feel is emphasized with fake moss growing out of cracks in the wall, along with real (dried) flowers scattered around the room. A mirror decorated with a wooden circle and foliage hangs in the center back wall serving as the main wall decoration. Behind the cluttered shelf there’s a storage space containing an old bathtub, moving boxes, and many odds and ends.

Modern

This room is a modern living room, accented with blue, hand-painted art, and small trinkets living on the floating shelves belonging to the right wall. The project is meant to serve as a connecting piece between the previous two rooms, and because of this the depth of the whole room is shortened, and the right wall has been shrunk in order to create an open living space.

Details

The details of room tell the story of who has been inside. Adding a bit of mess can make a space look homey and realistic.
